Over the past few days, I have made some changes to the sidebar, and I hope these are improvements. It all started when we moved our expanding blogroll to a separate page to reduce the clutter on our main page.

Of course, all of the new space merely inspired me to tinker with the sidebar, which resulted in some neat additions to the site. The miniature Site Meter chart shows the past year's visits and page views, and it clicks through to our Site Meter statistics. It is probably worth noting for those who are new here that Christine and I started Conglomerate in November 2004, so the statistics prior to the date are for Venturpreneur, which was a much less consistent blog. As you can see from the chart, with the exception of February -- which was a short month and also happened to be the month when we converted from MT to Typepad, so the site was down for about a week -- we have had a pretty solid upward trajectory in traffic.

For those who have been waiting for an RSS 2.0 feed, we now have one. Typepad does not provide a default template for an RSS 2.0 feed, but I found a template at the eclecticism blog, and it seems to work. [UPDATE: It didn't update, and I was tired of trying to figure it out, so it's gone.]

The eclecticism blog also taught me a neat feature for stylesheet switching. I have created five stylesheets that allow you to select different looks for the blog. (Look near the bottom of the sidebar.) All you have to do is click the one you want and the site automatically converts to that stylesheet. It works on all of the pages (so the styles carry over if you click on a topic or a permalink, for example), and the site remembers which one you selected the next time you visit (as long as you allow cookies). I think it's pretty cool, and I find myself changing the colors several times a day to fit my mood.
