I am just emerging from a very family-centered holiday weekend, enhanced by sunny weather here in Milwaukee. On Sunday, we went to see our favorite team, the Astros, play our second-favorite team, the Brewers. We got there early because it was Junior Spivey Bobblehead Day. At Spivey's first at bat, he hit a double. He actually got two hits from three at bats and raised his average to .242.
So, my question is whether there is a "bobblehead effect." Do players play better than average on their bobblehead day? Spivey did. If only I were a geeky deeply intellectual twelve-year old with a high-speed Internet connection and a lot of time on my hands.
