The Chief is Staying
Posted by Christine Hurt

CNN reports that the Chief is out of the hospital and says he has no plans to retire (ya buzzards!).  No disrespect intended, but I'm reminded of the "Bring out Your Dead" scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail:  "I'm not dead yet!  I'm getting better!  I feel happy!"

There's been a lot of buzzard blogging lately, reminding us that most of the Justices are in their 60s at least and way past retirement age.  Well, maybe retirement age for jobs with a lot of heavy lifting or thankless tedium.  Many attorneys practice well after retirement age, even if their firms kick them out, either because of the enjoyment of practice or the high opportunity cost of halting practice.  We had one retired partner in Houston who did consulting work.  His billable rate was $350, or $500 if he had to leave his house.

Hi- Shallow comment here. Did you see the picture of Rehnquist at Stanford in the recent Newsweek? He was the most easygoing, hansome looking guy- just stunning. It was amazing to compare photos of him then to the Vulcan of today. You should try it- its fun.
