Today is the big day. Lance Archibald is returning to Utah from Africa, where he was vacationing with his family, and his friends are expected to have his first date lined up from applications received in response to the now-famous billboard and website, datelance.com. One response that garnered lots of press in Utah came from Anmaree Osmond (Donny and Marie's niece), whose co-workers created datemelance.com.
The backstory for both websites is that they were created by "co-workers," but take a closer look at the two sites. Notice the prominence of their respective employers? Lance works for a logo design company, which did not create a logo for the Date Lance campaign, but has its own logo featured prominently on the top banner datelance.com. Same goes for Anmaree's employer, which is a regional magazine.
One reason this story has garnered so much attention is that it is such a far-fetched method of finding a mate, especially for a Mormon in Utah. Perhaps there is a more understandable explanation: could it be nothing more than a clever marketing scheme? (N.B.: Lance has a Harvard MBA.)

This is basically how Tucker Max started his website. Of course Lance's motives seem a little different.
