The Podcasting Plunge
Posted by Gordon Smith

Over the past few months, I have been slowly investigating podcasting, and I have decided to take the plunge. In the near term, this will be a solo act, but it may evolve into a Conglomerate affiliate or who-knows-what. I have decided on the basic concept for the show: it will be called Office Hour and will feature me talking about a variety of topics, sort of a combination of this blog, Subsidiary Thoughts, and an occasional Times & Seasons. I am almost ready to unveil my site, but I won't publish any podcasts until at least next week. In the meantime, I would be curious for feedback on two questions:

1. What would you be interested in hearing about in my podcast? (Keep it clean!)

2. Where should I get my theme music? I am going to steer clear of popular music, and I am leaning toward licensing music from a place like this or this. Having never done this before, however, I could use some guidance from a music person.

Responses in the comments or via email are welcome.

Gordon, I'm stoked you are going to podcast. I will be more stoked if the audio files will be available in formats like mp3, wma, avi, etc.

Feedback on your two questions:
1) Give us Gordon's tidbits on basic corporate law issues. Exploratory thinking about unique (and hardly ever encountered) issues in corporate law are nice and I am sure your professor readers will enjoy them. However, my guess is that most of your readers are not professors and would love to hear more of a "nuts and bolts" type cast. I would love to hear some of your information on startups and VC issues.

2) Theme music. Hmmmmm. Can you license "Eye of the Tiger"?

Thanks, Nathan. I am laughing about your suggestion of "Eye of the Tiger" because it makes me think of the Starbuck's Glen ad. And, of course, that reminds me of the Hank ad. Very funny stuff.

Gordon,

Lots of podcasts get their music from the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com/).

I'm eager to hear your show! There aren't a lot of good law-related podcasts out there yet.

Thanks for the link, Jim. I am eager to hear the show, too. I have been doing lots of little tests to get the sound right, and once I get the music, I will be ready to roll.

I am nearly ready to expose my site, but I won't issue any podcasts until at least next week. By the way thanks for this allocation.
