New Orleans Disaster Anticipated
Posted by Gordon Smith

My colleague Howie Erlanger pointed me to this article from the October 2004 issue of National Geographic, which describes the effect of a simulated hurricane on New Orleans. Read the first four paragraphs, and notice how "eerily accurate" (Howie's words) they were.

The article then observes, "The Federal Emergency Management Agency lists a hurricane strike on New Orleans as one of the most dire threats to the nation, up there with a large earthquake in California or a terrorist attack on New York City."

Hmm. I assume we are beyond thinking, "it can't happen here,"
right?
