Rita

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Texas and Louisiana. My co-blogger Julie Smith in Austin reports panic buying the local grocery store, even four hours from the coast. The Houston Chronicle has started a Hurricane Rita Blog:
Today, I went 55 miles in 8 hours and burned half a tank of gas before coming to the awful conclusion that I was not going to reach my destination because I couldn't buy more fuel on the road.
After the storm hits, the rest of us may have trouble buying gas, too. Take a look at this map from the NYT:
