Worldwide Junior Corporate Scholar Forum
Posted by Gordon Smith

Columbia is sponsoring a scholarship forum similar to the Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum, but with a focus on corporate law. Details below the fold.

CALL FOR PAPERS WORLD WIDE JUNIOR CORPORATE SCHOLAR FORUM
Columbia Law School

As part of a broad new initiative in comparative corporate law and governance, Columbia Law School is inaugurating a writing competition for junior legal scholars, called the World Wide Junior Corporate Scholar Forum. The competition is open to law faculty working in the fields of corporate and securities law with less than eight years teaching experience, whose primary affiliation is a university located outside of the United States and Canada. While submissions from scholars working in any eligible region are of interest, we particularly welcome papers from scholars working in emerging markets.

TOPICS:

Appropriate paper topics include, but are not limited to:
- Corporate law and governance
- Securities markets and regulation
- Special issues in corporate and securities law posed by rapidly developing economies
- Comparative analyses relating to the above topics

We welcome scholars working in a variety of methodologies, including empirical analysis, law and economics, law and sociology, and institutional analysis.

Papers will be chosen by a committee of Columbia Law School faculty. Authors whose papers are selected will be invited to present their work at a conference to be held in New York in the spring of 2007. Columbia Law School will provide economy air fare and hotel accommodations for all invited authors.

ELIGIBILITY:

As stated above, submissions will be accepted from legal scholars with less than eight years of teaching experience, whose primary affiliation is a university located outside of the United States and Canada. Only unpublished papers will be considered, although papers may be posted on SSRN,      ECGI, or similar working paper series. Authors must be available to participate in a full-day conference in New York in late February or early March 2007.

DEADLINE:

Submissions must be received by August 31, 2006. Authors will be notified of the results of the competition in November 2006.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

Submissions should include an abstract of the paper and a copy of the author's curriculum vitae. Paper submissions and inquiries should be directed to:

Since North American academics are specifically excluded from participation in that conference, the proper title should be “Un-American Junior Corporate Scholar Forum.”
