Last Thursday, I participated in a Faculty Retreat at U. of Illinois. The retreat is organized around the workshops of five faculty papers, with two faculty commentators for each paper. The result is really amazing and interesting and culminates in a nice dinner. My paper was the last paper on the agenda, and the commentators on my paper (Blogging While Untenured and Other Extreme Sports, with Tung Yin) were Larry Solum and Dick Kaplan. Dick ended his thoughtful commentary with these weighty lines:
I would not want to host a blog.
To do it well, work like a dog.
And all your pieces, you must flog.
No, I would not want to host a blog.
No time to think, each day you write.
With style and content, that you then cite.
To truly make it worth your time,
It must be brief, and perhaps should rhyme.
Eight hundred words, they say is max.
Get it out now, don't check the facts!
To find a gem, you must really slog.
No, I would not want to host a blog.
But that's the future, there's no doubt.
Don't be shy now; post and tout.
Me, I'll paint the Chapel Sistine.
Before I blog, like my friend Christine.
