"CBS News, Katie Couric Are Likely to Part Ways"
Posted by Gordon Smith

That's the headline for a story that, but for the fact that I read newspapers, I would have missed completely. Apparently, I am not alone ...

The graph from the newspaper, which you reposted, is a bit deceptive. Katie Couric only started at CBS in Sept. 2006 and so ratings have been essentially flat since she joined the network. The huge decline in CBS's share occurred before she arrived on the scene. If she does leave her contract, it will be interesting to see what CBS's ratings are. I somehow doubt that they are going to find a person as an anchor who can by themselves pull CBS out of the basement.

That's a fair point, Elizabeth. My post wasn't clear, but I was just suggesting that the nightly news shows generally -- and especially CBS -- are irrelevant as sources of news.

Unable to remember the last time I watched a nightly network news show to learn what was happening, I side with Gordon.

CBS ought to replace Couric with a real journalist. One pictures seances at Black Rock, efforts to raise Murrow, Sevareid, and their like from the grave.......

I linked your blog and a few others as a sample on my parody/satire webcomic today. Yours was a stretch, but everyone likes link backs right?? At least you get a little more authority on technorati...
Hope you don't mind. I'll remove the link if you ask.
