The Times gets wind of, and gives big play to, accounting standards harmonization on a slow news day.  Tea leaf readers would probably characterize the story as surprisingly skeptical.  Find it here.

Does Labaton at all know what he's talking about? How would adopting IFRS affect U.S. auditor oversight rules? And what do accounting rules have to do with 15a-6 and mutual recognition? Since when does "different" mean "inferior"?

Excellent questions. But he is a political reporter, right? This seems like a DC sourced story. Maybe that explains it some.
