The Conglomerate Measures Its Assets
Posted by David Zaring

When I first guested on this blog, I checked out its value on this oh-so-reliable calculator.  If you didn't think too carefully about the methodology, you could conclude that the blog was worth $135,489.60 then.  What has happened since I was invited to join the permanent roster?

We're now worth $111,778.92.  Approximately.

What could possibly account for the massive destruction of a fifth of the blog's value?  I think the answer is pretty clear.  Rising fuel costs haven't helped.  Bad weather in the Midwest clearly played a role.  But more than anything, what we can learn from this exercise is this: the global economy is unquestionably in recession.  HT: Volokh

I think it must be the housing bust. Perhaps we were overvalued then. The foreclosed blogs on the block can't be helping.

Digital piracy is also a problem. So are short sellers.

"What could possibly account for the massive destruction of a fifth of the blog's value?"

Clearly it is all the negativity from blogs like Mr. Verb and Fritinancy.

It appears that your only hope of stopping the freefall is some immediate regulation restricting such destructive comments in the blogosphere.

Then again, maybe Paulson and Bernanke might be willing to bail you out before it's too late, if you don't mind the subsequent oversight from the Fed...

Perhaps Volokh could buy you out with a little help from the government...
