Legal Lyrics

As I was traveling, I noticed several posts in the blogosphere about law-related parodies -- see Begging the Question here and here. I actually come from a long line of law-related parody-making. My Property prof, Cindy Estlund, sang to us, and now I sing to my students. I sing one of her parodies (to the tune of "The Boxer" -- "Oh, I am just a first-year, and my story's seldom told. . . .") and my own. My husband also used to regale us at Baker Botts with his guitar "pickin' and grinnin'." He had a great song called "Billin' Time" to the tune of Clint Black's "Killin' Time."

Here is my offering to the blogosphere -- a parody I created when I taught legal writing that I sing to my first-year Torts students now on the day they turn in their final memo problems: "Memorandaville," to the tune of "Margaritaville."

Keep getting off track
I can?t synthesize all of these rules
I?ve got a conclusion
But now it needs provin?

I know it sounds cheesy,
But the issues were easy!
But writing it down is like pulling teeth.
