Christine, Vic, and I are all at the AALS Annual Meeting. Christine and I had dinner with former guest blogger Joan Heminway and my co-author Cindy Williams at the Lebanese Taverna tonight. That's a favorite of lawprofs because it has great food and sits across the street from the main conference hotel, which is also the hotel used for the fall faculty recruitment conference.
On our short walk back to the Marriott, we bumped into Hilary Sale, Donna Nagy, and Hannah Buxbaum. And in the registration and exhibit hall, I found frequent commenters Scott Moss and Fred Tung, as well as Randall Thomas. (Did I miss anyone?)
Randall had arrived only 10 minutes earlier, and he was hungry ... off to dinner again! This time, I limited myself to a single glass of root beer while Randall enjoyed a steak. We watched the first half of the Penn State-Florida State game (which ultimately kept me up late!) and talked shop, which is always a learning experience for me.
When I first entered academe, I didn't like attending AALS. There are so many people here that it can seem pretty lonely for newcomers, but now it is one of my favorite conferences of the year. The section meetings have become more substantive over time, and the chance to see longtime friends is valuable to me.
