Presentation Etiquette
Posted by Gordon Smith
I am presenting at a conference today on "Understanding Technology Entrepreneurship and its Effects on Social Institutions." One of the speakers surprised me by using the word bullsh*t in his presentation. He didn't seem particularly exercised about the point. He just said it in a very casual way.
Thumbs down.
Although I avoid using vulgarities and profanities -- both in public and in private conversation -- I am not a prudish listener. Nevertheless, I find cussing in an academic presentation distracting. Moreover, it is too often used as a substitute for critical analysis.
