James Altucher here admits to an array of offenses against high ethical behavior (and in some cases admitted lawbreaking), but the one that surprises me the most is the self-dealing - that is, hiring himself as a consultant. He's now an entrepreneur, and I hope he likes being a founder, because I can't imagine sustaining any role as a manager after this sort of candidness. Nonetheless, huzzah for candidness as a general matter.
Here, Felix Salmon speculates that Wing Chau might have a decent libel case against Michael Lewis - he's portrayed as one of the suckers in the Big Short. Public figure? No. But no hedge fund is going to want to go through discovery. If I were Lewis's lawyer, I'd send Chau's people a draft of the interrogatories, and request for a list of Chau's other counterparties while preparing that motion to dismiss.
And I think it is fair to say that Steve Davidoff was instrumental in scotching Abercrombie's plans to reincorporate in Ohio in anticipation of a management led buyout.
