   Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Business Law:  FALL 2017

The Department of Finance and Commercial Law in the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in business law at the assistant professor level beginning August 2017. A J.D. with an excellent academic record from an ABA accredited law school and admission in good standing to practice law in one’s jurisdiction or the expectation of admission by August 2017 is required. Strong potential for outstanding teaching and research is also a requirement. Teaching experience in legal topics within undergraduate or graduate business curricula is preferred. The ideal candidate will have an established record of scholarly research. An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or business related field (e.g., Finance, Business Communications, Management, or Marketing) from an AACSB accredited school is also preferred. Salary is competitive, with a generous benefits package.

The Department of Finance and Commercial Law will start offering a business law major in Fall 2016. The department currently offers a business law minor. The department also offers majors in finance and personal financial planning, with total major enrollment of about 400 students. The finance major is a CFA Institute Recognized program and the personal financial planning major is certified by the CFP Board. The Haworth College of Business offers 17 majors and is the academic home to nearly 3,600 undergraduate students. Another 350 students are enrolled in the MBA and M.S.A. programs. The college is accredited at both the undergraduate and graduate levels by AACSB International.

Western Michigan University (WMU) has an enrollment of nearly 22,000 students. WMU delivers high-quality undergraduate instruction, has a strong graduate division, and fosters significant research activities. The Carnegie Foundation classifies WMU as one of the nation’s 147 public research universities.

WMU is located in Kalamazoo, which is midway between Chicago and Detroit (about 140 miles from each). Kalamazoo County, with population just over 250,000, has over 450 restaurants, 83 lakes with public access and 22 public golf courses. The area has a wealth of cultural offerings, with numerous festivals, over ten live performance theatres and several museums. The Kalamazoo Promise, a scholarship program for Kalamazoo Public High School graduates, received national attention for its generosity and for its innovative approach to economic development. Southwest Michigan is home to several large employers, including Kellogg’s, Pfizer, Stryker and Whirlpool.
