Academy Awards Nominations

The Academy Award nominee list is here. Back when we didn't have kids, and our friends didn't have kids, and the awards were on Mondays instead of Sundays, we used to host an Academy Awards party with a prediction pool. I never won the pool because my predictions were votes, not actual predictions, but the party was very fun if I do say so myself.

I glanced through the list to see if there were any suprises, and I was surprised that Farenheit 911 was not nominated in the Documentary category. I didn't see the movie, so my assumption was based not so much on the strength of the movie but on the relatively small number of entrants in that category. However, I was told that Mr. Moore did not enter the film in that category, wanting instead to enter the film in the "Best Picture" category. I assume that the field is pretty strong in that category and the competition fairly fierce.

The Incredibles is nominated in several categories, including Best Animated Feature Film. This category has only been around a few years, since the renaissance of Disney animated films and the entrance of new studios in the genre. I wonder if there will ever be a category for Best Voice Male Actor or Best Voice Female Actor? I know nothing about acting, but I would assume that this a skill that should be recognized as well.
